Walkthrough Introduction
Welcome to the walkthrough! This chapter of the guide provides an easy-to-follow, step-by-step progression for Thief. Here you’ll find helpful puzzle solutions, clever stealth tactics, and vital maps and checklists designed to expose every bit of loot in the levels. Before we begin, let’s first review everything that the walkthrough has to offer.
Chapter StatsEach story chapter begins with a comprehensive list of stats pertaining to the mission at hand. Here’s what the stats mean: Collectible Loot Items: The number of collectibles to be found in the chapter. These special pieces of loot are showcased on the Journal’s “Collectibles” page. Due to their rarity, collectibles are spotlighted in special boxes whenever they can be obtained. Common Loot Items: The number of common loot items to be found in the mission. This includes all goods that can be fenced for gold, such as cups, pens, candlesticks, gears, and so on. Because there are so many common loot items to find, special checklists and progression flags appear in the walkthrough to help you track them all down. Pockets to Pick: The total number of pickpocketing opportunities you have during the mission. Challenge yourself to pick every pocket! Locks to Pick: The total number of locks that can be picked during the mission. This includes locked doors, safes, boxes, chests, and so on. Gotta pick ’em all! Threats (Guards/Freaks): The total number of threats encountered in the mission (guards and/or Freaks). Civilians and caged birds/dogs are not counted, as they can’t actually harm you. |
Thieving Challenges Tables
These tables provide information on the mission’s unique Thieving Challenges. Fulfilling these optional challenges can earn you significant amounts of bonus gold, as detailed in the opening “Thieving Challenges” tables.
Thieving Challenge Progression Flags
Thieving Challenge: “Example” (1/1)
Many Thieving Challenges require you to perform a certain number of actions, such as stealing all of the mission’s loot or knocking out a specified number of people. To ensure that you’re keeping pace with the walkthrough, special flags appear each time you can advance in a Thieving Challenge. Whenever you see these flags, call up the Journal’s “Statistics” page to view your progress in the Thieving Challenges and make sure you’re still on track.
Collectible and Document Boxes
Lastly, the walkthrough features two types of special boxes that appear whenever a tracked collectible or document can be found. Open the Journal, and you’ll see that a specific amount of collectibles and documents can be acquired in the game. As such, these boxes are numbered throughout the entire walkthrough—not just in the story chapters, but also in the City (the sprawling hub zone) and even in the optional side jobs. If the numbering of these boxes seems to jump around, you may have missed something in the City or perhaps you chose not to undertake a side job when it first became available. Whatever the case, these boxes, in combination with your Journal, will help you track down every last document and collectible. Good luck!
