How to Play Basic Actions

Before we get to the good stuff, let’s first review some of the most basic actions Garrett can perform.

Interacting

Garrett can interact with just about everything in his environment. Approach any object that seems interesting, and if Garrett can use it, an action prompt will appear. Common interactions include opening doors and snatching up valuables. Garrett is a thief, after all.

Observing

Occasionally, you’ll be prompted to observe something important in Garrett’s surroundings. It could be a group of guards having an interesting conversation or a remote objective. Whenever the “Observe” prompt appears onscreen, be sure to have a look.

Running

Press and hold the Run/Climb/Jump button to make Garrett sprint through his environment. Garrett automatically vaults obstacles, leaps gaps, and scales heights while running. However, running creates more noise than walking, and Garrett is easier to spot while moving at this speed. Avoid running unless it’s absolutely necessary, such as when being pursued by guards.

Climbing

Garrett can scale ropes and ladders and can climb onto just about any object that has a flat surface upon which he can stand. This includes walls, crates, pipes, and wooden beams. If you think you can climb an object, approach it and tap the Run/Climb/Jump button to give it a try.

Higher walls can also be scaled with the aid of the claw, a special tool that Garrett acquires at the end of the Prologue. Look for distinct metal grates that provide purchase for the claw, then tap the Run/Climb/Jump button to rise up to higher ground. You can also use the claw to reach high ladders, even when no metal grates are about.

Jumping

Garrett can also leap across short gaps using the Run/Climb/Jump button. This can allow him to, say, jump between neighboring rooftops. If you see a surface that looks close enough for Garrett to reach, try jumping and see if he can clear the distance. Just beware of long falls—even the most nimble of thieves is susceptible to gravity.
