Duke Nukem Forever

Walkthrough for the game with details of all achievements

Basics

Ego and Health

Regardless of what Duke thinks, he is not invincible. However, he can take quite a beating before succumbing to enemy attacks. His resilience is due, in large part, to his huge Ego. His Ego acts as a shield that absorbs enemy damage. Once it’s depleted though, Duke is in grave danger. Fortunately, Duke’s Ego always bounces back. Simply seek cover and allow it to recharge before returning to the fray.

Interaction

Many of the objects you encounter throughout the campaign are interactive. Drinking fountains, urinals, pinball machines, televisions and so on can be approached and manipulated. Most are just there for comic effect, however, some interactions permanently boost Duke’s Ego meter. So, it pays to interact with every object you come across, lest you miss an opportunity to further inflate Duke’s Ego.

Achievement/Trophy

Unlock the “I Am All That Is Man” achievement/trophy by discovering all 100 Ego cap awards.

Also, many objects can be picked up and thrown at enemies. Don’t underestimate their damage potential as a direct hit with a trophy or urn, for example, instantly kills most alien infantry units.

Items

The weapons at Duke’s disposal are pretty standard: Pistols, shotguns, alien lasers and so on. What is classic Duke however are a couple of the items he uses throughout the game. Periodically, you’ll come across cans of beer and steroid containers. Drink a beer to temporarily but considerably increase your damage resistance. Beer is very useful when facing multiple enemies or while engaging a boss. The liquid courage will also help you approach woman, though that’s beyond the scope of this guide.

Achievement/Trophy

Unlock the “Flagon of Chuckles” achievement/trophy by downing your first brew.

Popping steroids increases your melee damage for short period of time. This is especially useful against ground-based attackers such as Pigcops. Most enemies are very weak against Duke’s melee attacks as it is, so add steroids to the mix and every punch is deadly.

Achievement/Trophy

Earn the “Duke Angry, Duke Smash!” achievement/trophy by killing fifteen aliens with melee attacks while on steroids.

Achievement/Trophy

Unlock the “Substance Abuser” achievement/trophy by drinking a beer while under the affects of steroids or vice versa.

Walkthrough

Duke Lives

In true Duke Nukem fashion, you begin the game pissing while whistling your own theme music. Zip it up and have a look around. Many of the objects within the world are interactive and some even grant a permanent bonus to your Ego.

Achievement/Trophy

Enter the first bathroom stall and you’ll notice someone forgot to flush after, err… going number two. Instead of flushing, grab the floating feces to score the “Turd Burglar” achievement/trophy.

Achievement/Trophy

Move into the team dressing room and approach the soldiers drawing up an attack plan. “Use” the board and doodle on it to unlock the “Drawrings” achievement/trophy.

Exit the dressing room and head down the hallway. An explosion rips through, knocking you off your feet. Regain your footing and proceed down the side hallway. Let the soldiers mop up the aliens and then follow them to find and equip the Devastator.

The elevator takes you to the arena floor where you encounter the Cycloid. To defeat it, keep your distance to avoid its stomp attack and target the beast with your dual rocket launchers. Strafe to avoid his own projectile attacks while continually pelting him with rockets. If you remain far enough away, you’ll have no trouble dodging his rush attack and shockwave.

Note: Periodically, ammo crates will be dropped from the sky to replenish your reserves. Look for the red smoke to quickly identify their locations.

Achievement/Trophy

Flying high above the arena floor is a large blimp. Target it with your rockets and fire at it until the “Sunday, Black Sunday” achievement/trophy unlocks.

After the one-eyed freak falls, quickly approach it and follow the onscreen prompts to climb the beast’s back and pull out it’s breathing apparatus. Then, kick a field goal using the Cyclops’ bulging eye as a ball.

Achievement/Trophy

Defeating the Cycloid unlocks the “One-Eyed Freak” achievement/trophy.

Duke Lives: Part 2

After the fight, explore the bathroom of your penthouse suite. Admire yourself in the mirror and take a piss in the toilet for two ego boosts, then, use the phone in the stall to listen to a recorded message.

Note: There are 14 total phone messages to listen to throughout the campaign. Find them all to unlock the “Call Waiting” achievement/trophy.

When you’re finished powdering your nose, head down to the game room. Approach the pool table and interact with the cue ball. Knock all of the balls into the holes without scratching and you’ll receive a permanent ego boost.

After you’ve had enough fun, leave the room and proceed down the hallway to the elevator. Press the call button, enter the elevator and then select a floor to end the mission.

Damn! It’s Late…

When you reach the lobby, head straight through the double doors ahead. A small alcove off the main hallway houses a few vending machines. No ego boosts to be had here, but you can unlock an achievement/trophy.

Achievement/Trophy

Eat 10 food items from the snack machine to unlock the “Noms” achievement/trophy.

Enter the employee lounge and place and cook a bag of popcorn in the microwave for a permanent Ego boost.

Your adoring public awaits. Enter the stage and autograph the kid’s book for another Ego boost. After your public service is complete, proceed to the curtained staging area and get ready for your close-up.

Oops, it appears the show has been cancelled do to alien activity. Leave the soundstage via the far door.

Achievement/Trophy

An asshole is going all Christian Bale on a production assistant. Knock him out to unlock the “Nobody Likes a Whiner” achievement/trophy.

Follow the hallway to the elevators and use them to take you to the Duke Nuke’em Museum. When you reach it, the elevator loses power. “Use” the emergency console to open a service ladder. Climb it and exit the elevator shaft by opening a door on the floor above.

Approach the throne in the museum and speak with the usurper to your crown. You’ll need to use the nearby console to take a picture of the kid before he abdicates the throne. Have a seat and the mission ends.

The Duke Cave

A conference call from the President serves nothing more than to anger you. You’re forced to listen, but not obey. After the call ends, exit the control room. An alien is attempting to break through the blast doors. Wait until he pulls his hand back and inserts his ugly mug through and then smack him upside the face. Two hits should knock him down and out.

Force your way through the door and pick up a trophy on the floor of the hallway. Target and toss the object at the distant alien to dispatch it.

Note: Thrown objects can take down aliens quickly. Use them to successfully destroy 10 aliens for the “Downtown Barrel Beatdown” achievement/trophy.

Tip: Sometimes, an attack only sends an alien to its knees. They are defenseless in this state and can be executed by getting in close and following the button press shown on your screen. 20 executions will unlock the “Judge, Jury, Executioner” achievement/trophy.

Enter the workout room and interrupt some alien Pilates with a couple more thrown objects. Then, interact with the following objects for permanent Ego boosts:

-Punch the heavy bag

-Curl a dumbbell

-Bench press the maximum weight (place all four weights on the bar before using)

-Beat the high pinball score

-Sink a foul shot

-Punch the speed bag

Leave the room by yanking the glowing air vent off its hinges and climbing inside the ducts. Move through the ducts until you emerge in another hallway.

Caution: Flames spew from random pipes. Avoid them by backtracking and finding another way through.

Once you emerge in the hallway, you’ll pick up a beer. Drinking beer make you drunk, but allows you to take extra damage before falling.

Achievement/Trophy

Drink the beer to unlock the “Flagon of Chuckles’ achievement/trophy.

Two armed aliens confront you farther down the hall. Drink the beer and then pummel them to death. Two more aliens drop down from the ceiling, although in your inebriated state you may see four of them. If so, just hit the ones in the middle.

The power fails so use the control pad to activate Duke Vision. Force the door open and move inside the elevator utility shaft. Jump and crawl around the obstacles that surround the main shaft. Leap down, just behind the blind aliens and melee them to death.

Force the door open, dispatch another blinded alien and proceed through another jammed doorway. Another pair of aliens is flailing in the dark, unaware of your presence. Take them out and then destroy the small duct cover with a right hook.

Crawl into the small space and drop down. Make your way around the pipes and dispatch two more defenseless aliens. Knock down the glowing support barrels from beneath a large, wall-mounted pipe and then hop on the pipe and walk to its far end. The pipe acts like a seesaw with the side opposite the one upon which you are standing raised up. Turn around, run down its length and leap onto the higher ledge.

Follow the ledge until it cuts left and carefully follow it through the tunnel. Knock out the grating and step down into the large, circular, reactor room. Make your way around the room taking out all alien guards.

Equip the dropped alien weapon and then find and pick up both power cells scattered about the room. Insert each cell into the glowing reactor receptacle and the lights will reactivate. Turn off Duke Vision and prepare to repel the incoming alien.

After the room is clear, head through the only unlocked door. Three more armed and angry aliens wait to spoil your day. Use their own weapons against them until none remain standing. Run through the door and approach a glowing remote sitting on a ledge.

Use the remote to control the small truck in the opposite room. Your goal is to make it push the final power cell through the small opening in the wall. To do so, drive it from it’s starting position on the shelf, to the floor below. Move it forward and then turn it around and drive it up the ramp and onto a narrow ledge.

Move it forward until the upper ramp falls just behind it. Back it up, past the fallen ramp and navigate it up to the next level. Continue moving forward until it falls right in front of you. Steer it carefully around the bend and use it to push the power cell to the floor. Finally, use the truck to force the cell through the tight opening in the far wall.

Pick up the cell and proceed back into the reactor room. Place the cell into the receptacle. After the receptacle drops into the reactor, get ready for incoming aliens!

Tip: Your reward for returning the third cell is a container of ”DukeRx” steroids. Use them to make your melee attacks super strong!

Achievement/Trophy

The “Juiced” achievement/trophy is unlocked after you swallow your first pill!

Achievement/Trophy

Down the steroids and the beer right after one another to unlock the “Substance Abuser” achievement/trophy.

A swarm of laser-toting aliens appears around the circumference of the room. Unleash your lasers from a distance or down some steroids and take them on with your bare hands.

After the fight, use the previously locked door to exit the reactor room. Once you open the door, two Pigcops charge you. Backtrack and open fire to put them down before they get too close.

A small room holds a pistol. Equip it before exiting.

Note: The pistol is a powerful weapon and is equipped with a laser sight for pinpoint accuracy.

Make your way down the curved walkway, dispatching aliens as you go. It’s your choice how to best defeat them, you can either shoot them, throw objects at them or detonate the nearby explosive cylinders to ruin their day.

Tip: Pick up the explosive cylinder and throw them at distant enemies. Just make sure you aren’t too close or the resulting explosion will hurt you as well!

Enter the room that holds the main turret and remove the alien infestation. Enter the gunner’s seat and the mission ends.

Mothership Battle

Once the Mothership floats into view above the gun, the battle begins. The only weak spot is the large laser battery that protrudes from the main body. It takes a long barrage of shots from the gun to do damage, so be patient and fire relentlessly.

Target and destroy any dropships that land on the roof to avoid pesky enemy infantry.

Caution: Do not let the gun overheat or you’ll be a sitting duck until it cools.

After enough damage is dealt to the Mothership, gunships appear one after another and target your position. Take them out before their lasers can reach you. When they arrive in groups of three, concentrate your fire on the middle ship, as the others are only escorts and cannot hurt you.

Achievement/Trophy

Destroy five enemy gunships or dropships to unlock the “Big Guns, Big Ships” achievement/trophy.

Once the Mothership has been destroyed, Duke is knocked back down the gun shaft. After he awakens, melee the nearby vent grating and enter the air ducts. Crawl through until the mission ends.

The Lady Killer

Melee the grate to gain access to the elevator. Unfortunately, the elevator’s brakes fail and it begins to plunge downward. Use the glowing lever to manually engage the brakes. Let off before it overheats and then immediately re-engage. Pump the brakes until the elevator safely reaches the lobby.

Upon exiting the elevator you’ll immediately shrink, courtesy of an alien shrink pad. Approach the baggage cart to your right and push it forward. Enter the boy’s RC car and drive forward. Activate the boost to propel yourself up the nearby ramp and over the barricade.

In your diminutive form, you can do nothing to stop the merciless slaughter going on in the casino. Simply drive through the rooms and hallways while navigating around obstacles and leaping over broken sections of the floor.

When you reach the bottom floor, navigate around the circular fountain and then use the ramp to leap onto and then over the fallen statue.

Continue on the linear path until the mission ends.

The Lady Killer: Part 2

As the second part of the mission gets underway, you find yourself in the casino proper. Aliens now notice you and attempt to target and destroy you. Keep moving and your size and speed will see you through.

A low gate impeded your progress in the next room. Exit the vehicle and duck beneath it. Move forward and leap onto the suitcase lying against the roulette table. Hop onto the table and turn left.

Jump from object to object until you reach the next table. Note that the cushions on the chairs serve as bounce pads and send you flying toward the next object.

Once you’ve successfully landed on the second craps table, leap to the sofa and let the cushions propel you into the planter. Destroy the rats, chuckle at the line from The Princess Bride and continue along. Leap onto the gore-splattered ashtray and press the glowing button to raise the gate. Hop down, enter the vehicle and proceed forward.

Boost over a few ramps and then do your best to avoid the Pigcops that attempt to smash your ride. One final jump and you’re home free. Exit your wrecked vehicle and proceed toward the closed gate.

Move the baggage cart from right to left and up against the far wall. Then, use the small poster as a ramp and scale the sofas. Jump from the last sofa, onto the baggage cart and press the glowing button to raise the gate.

Run forward and step on the expander pad located between the two bimbos. Welcome back to full-size! Break the glass on the display case and grab the shotgun. Then, get ready for some company. Dropships arrive and, well, drop some alien cargo. You must destroy them all before you can proceed.

After all extra-terrestrials have been vanquished, lift the gate and backtrack through the casino.

Once you round the first corner, several Pigcops will emerge through the debris. Wait until they get close and them pump ‘em full of buckshot.

Tip: The Urns that line the hallways can be picked up and tossed at aliens, killing them with one shot.

When you step foot in the large slot room, take out the Pigcop and then move to the cahier’s station. The aliens will breech the ceiling and begin pouring through, two at a time. Pick up a trashcan and hurl it at the first Pigcop. Use your shotgun on the second. Continue dispatching the aliens as soon as they appear and you won’t be overwhelmed.

Once the area is secure, approach a lighted slot machine and insert coins until you win. A permanent Ego boost is your reward.

Open the glowing gate to the right of the cashier’s counter to proceed. The next slot room is also chock-full of alien scum. Grab the steroid container at the base of the vehicle, down it and go on a ‘roid rampage! There is a second container on the opposite side of the slot bank, so use it after the first runs its course.

Open the gate and continue through the Lady Killer Casino until the mission ends.

The Lady Killer: Part 3

A few kills later, you’ll come across a large model of Duke, towering over a scale-size city. You need to use it to reach the floor above. Turn the model until its bent right arm is facing the building to your left. Then, move his left arm up, until the laser points at the floor above. Finally, activate the model to start the animated destruction sequence.

Disengage from the controls and quickly hop onto the building to your right. Jump from model rooftop to model rooftop until you reach his right arm. Leap onto the arm, and then scale Duke’s head and shoulders, making your way to his outstretched left arm. Sprint jump up his arm and off his pistol to the safety of the floor above.

After a brief encounter with a Pigcop, exit the room through the far door. Climb the fallen duct and enter the service crawlspace. Continue until you bust through to the floor below.

Trip mines are set up on the walls. Target the origins of the lasers and fire upon it them until they detonate. Then, proceed along the hall.

Duck beneath, jump over and duck under the next three traps respectively.

Open the EDF ammo crate and refill your ammo reserves.

Note: Only crates and boxes that display the EDF logo contain ammunition.

Destroying the next trip mine trap starts a fire. Target the nearby fire extinguisher and destroy it to douse the flames. More fires must be extinguished the same way before you can leave this section. After all the flames have been put out, grab the trip mines from the shelves, make sure you have four, and go through the door.

Allies will help you deal with the next batch of baddies. Afterward, hit up the ammo crate to refill for the upcoming battle.

Achievement/Trophy

Throw a trip mine onto a Pigcop or any enemy to unlock the “Sticky Bomb Like You!” achievement/trophy.

A mini-boss will crash through the ceiling just above the fountain. He’s a flyer and a quick-moving one at that. Drop your trip mines along the perimeter of the room and lure the hovering mutant through them. Continue running while you continually fire upon the monster. Get too far away and he’ll quickly close the distance and chop you up with his spinning blades. Don’t let up and don’t stop for too long and you’ll win this battle.

Vegas In Ruin

Listen to your old friend rant and then move along to the supply truck. Inside, you’ll find the Ripper and the green power armor from Halo. Equip the ripper but leave the armor; Duke’s too cool for it anyway.

Head left until you reach the main road. Your forces have set up a perimeter and are busy defending it. Help them by manning the turret and annihilating some alien slime. After the first wave pours from the personnel carrier and is cut down by your machine gun, a dropship arrives and unloads a group of Pigcops. Take them out and the action sequence is over.

Travel down the road to your right and take on some more cloven-hoofed hostiles before hitting the high road with an all to eager companion. An enemy strafing run destroys the bridge and you’re forced to hop down to the street below.

Destroy the ammo box and grab the explosives. Then, turn your attention to the Pigcop running toward you carrying an explosive barrel. Detonate the barrel before it reaches you.

The next target is the rocket-firing alien standing atop the truck trailer. Dodge his slow-moving rockets and riddle him with Ripper rounds until he falls.

After the battle, ignore the road straight ahead and instead veer to your right, across the divide and to the far side of the road. Smash a couple of ammo boxes for the explosives and then move on.

Two turrets stand in the road ahead. Ignore them, as more often then not they become death traps. Instead, back up behind them and throw a few trip mines and pipe bombs. A dropship will arrive and out will leap several Pigcops. Open fire and target the ones that make it through your minefield.

An RPG sits at the lip of a large crater. Grab it before dropping down into the hole. Note the ammo crate directly to the right of your position; you’ll need it soon.

Approach your men and note the ammo crate behind them as well. Two dropships will drop aliens onto the crater’s floor who’ll attempt to put an end to your heroics. Dispatch them using the RPG and visit the ammo crates whenever you find yourself short on ammo.

After the pitched battle, a boss appears to finish what the other failed to accomplish. He is tall and carries a very big stick. Keep the central rock column between you and the mutant in order to avoid his machine gun. But, don’t stay in one place too long or he’ll lob grenades over the column.

Wait until he rounds a corner and then lock on and let loose with your rockets. Then, move quickly to one of the ammo crates and replenish your reserves. Repeat the procedure until the boss falls to his knees and then approach him and follow the onscreen prompts to finish him off. One more quick button press and you’ll humiliate him before he dies. Classic.

Achievement/Trophy

Defeating the Battlelord unlocks the “Pit Champion” achievement/trophy.

Wait for your friend to bust through the pipe and use it to exit the area.

The Duke Dome

As you make your way through the large ditches created by the aliens you’ll come across a downed and sparking power cable. Leap from pallet to pallet and avoid stepping foot in the water or you’ll take serious damage.

Continue forward and shoot the fire extinguisher strapped to the hanging corpse’s back to put out the flames.

Climb out of the sewers and approach the two men that are conversing atop a shipping container. They’ll have their buddy drop an open container attached to a crane. Climb aboard, equip the RPG and train your sights on the poor saps that tried to lend you a hand.

After the carnage, the new crane operator will direct you toward t he parking garage where aliens are clamoring to get a clean shot. Fire your RPG with impunity knowing that the ammo crate beside you contains unlimited ammunition.

Tip: If you begin taking damage, crouch and use the piece of scrap metal sticking out from the container for cover.

Achievement/Trophy

Fire a rocket in the center of a group of aliens to unlock the “Natural Disaster” achievement trophy.

After a few stops, a car hits the container and Duke is knocked back down to Earth. Move through the construction area, pick up the Railgun and melee the lock on the gate.

Enter the Duke Dome’s courtyard and use the Railgun to scope out and destroy the Pigcops that infest the area. Run to the far end and ignite the red barrel from a safe distance. Climb up and through the open-ended cargo container and drop down to the construction yard beyond.

Your objective is to gain entrance to the foreman’s trailer. Run around behind it and climb the ladder to the roof. Destroy the glass skylights and drop to the floor inside.

Make a copy using the copier and you’ll gain a permanent Ego boost. Listen to the second of fourteen messages by accessing the phone on the trailer’s wall. Then, activate the switch and prepare for battle.

The first dropship unleashes its alien cargo over the yard beyond the windows. Use the Railgun to execute the alien assailants with a single shot.

The second and third dropships hover directly above you. Wait for the Pigcops to drop through the skylights and then immediately drop them using whatever weapons you have at your disposal.

The final three waves approach you from beyond the far wall. The Railgun and the Ripper are both good choices to repel borders from a distance.

Finally, a horde of Pigcops rush the trailer and succeed in overturning it. To escape, wait until the trailer comes to a rest and then high tail it across the courtyard, through the hole in the wall. Then, turn and let loose as they enter the hole. If you are having trouble, drink a beer to increase your armor.

Open the gate and proceed through to end this portion of the mission.

The Duke Dome: Part 2

Continue over the scorched earth until you reach a dead end. Turn around and climb the ladder attached to a blue cargo container. Target and destroy the red barrels located in the adjacent brown container. Then, grab the nearby blue oil drum and walk behind the red container. Toss the drum inside and make sure it rolls to the front of the container. Continue placing drums into the red container until it tilts fully to the ground.

Note: It takes three additional drums to weigh it down.

Now, climb the ladder onto the roof of the blue container and leap from it to the top of the red container. From there, hop to the scaffolding and make your escape from the area.

The crane in the next area requires a battery before it can be operated. Climb atop the long crane arm and leap onto the unfinished structure. Make your way down to the second story and destroy the barrels inside the hanging container. Move through the container and drop down to the pickup truck below. Grab the RPG and proceed to the ladder ahead.

Climb the ladder and then a ramp up to a third story structure. The batter for the crane is inside. Grab it and brace yourself for a firefight.

A gunship appears near the crane. Immediately retreat to ground level and to the far side of the construction yard. Lock onto the gunship through the support beams and hit it with rocket after rocket. If you take damage, retreat behind the nearby concrete wall until your Ego regenerates.

Note: Additional RPG ammo is located just beyond the wall and within the bed of the pickup truck.

After about ten direct hits, the ship will go down in flames, taking a portion of the fence with it. Move through the opening and back up to the crane. Insert the battery into the receptacle and man the controls. Smash the wrecking ball into the side of the Duke Dome repeatedly, until the wrecking ball is destroyed.

Exit the control booth and once again climb the crane arm. Leap from the end of the arm into the hole you just created.

Move through the door and the mission ends.

The Hive

The path splits just ahead of the spot where you come to rest. Take the lower path to find a couple of trip mines and a Ripper. Then, return to the fork and progress along the upper path.

Continue forward and melee the thick strands of webbing that block your path. Duck and crawl through the narrow tunnel, pushing the ball-like creature in front of you. At the tunnel’s end, the creature will get sucked into a receptacle and the locked door will open.

Just after you tickle your way through the closed door, turn left and follow the darkened path. Duck under the low overhang and you’ll find a dead space marine.

Note: This is the second of three masks you need to find in order to unlock the “Bucket Head” achievement/trophy.

Clawed tentacles jut from the walls in the next area. Shoot them and they’ll retract for a short time, allowing you to safely pass by. Or, simply give them a wide berth as you pass.

Move through another corridor and stop short of the glowing purple globs that line the cavern ahead. If you get too close they’ll explode and inflict heavy damage. Shoot them as you would a trip mine to detonate them and then continue along the linear path.

You’ll finally get some action after passing through the cavern filled with the wailing cries of the aliens’ victims. A flying Octabrain will erupt from the far door. Dispatch it and move along.

The next expanse contains trapped victims suspended over the alien pods. The pods will not hatch, so either ignore the pleas and continue along or put the women out of their misery.

A large, seemingly impassable cavern looms in front of you. Head to your right and hop down off the small ledge. A clam-like shell opens wide, exposing its meaty underbelly. Hop on and it’ll catapult you to the far ledge. The next alien bounce pad will send you much farther and after a few soft ricochets, you’ll land near the exit, no worse for wear.

Your two, umm, friends, can be found in the next room. However, their prognosis is grim. Approach them to start the conversation and then immediately back track and use the nearby bounce pad to hop onto an elevated ledge. The high vantage point will give you an advantage during the short battle to come. Dispose of the critters and then turn your eyes toward the far wall.

Directly across from the ledge where you’re standing are strange outcroppings that look like women’s breasts. Classy, we know, but this is a Duke Nuke’em game after all! Get close and interact with them to score a permanent Ego boost.

Before hoping from the ledge into the next large cavern, take out the pods to ensure minimal resistance. Then, melee the women to ensure they don’t give birth to any aliens as you pass through.

Equip your Duke Vision and follow the windy path until you come across more face huggers. Conserve your ammo and eradicate them by simply stomping on them.

Tip: Duke will automatically foot stomp smaller foes if you look down and walk over them.

At the end of the tunnel you’ll find another ball-like creature. Butt it with your weapon to scare it into its shell and then push it back down the way you came. Defeat the Octabrains along the way and within the initial cavern. Then, push the creature into the receptacle to unlock the door.

The Hive: Part 2

Tip: Melee bodies caught in webs for ammo, items and weapons.

Several bodies hang from the ceiling in the first cavern you enter. Hit them until they are completely free to ensure you’ve retrieved everything from the corpse. Proceed up either path, avoiding the environmental dangers and exit the room. Make sure you have a decent ranged weapon for the next encounter.

Follow the narrow path along the outskirts of the immense cave and take cover when the Octabrains arrive. Don’t stray from cover and take them out one by one.

The walls in the next cave are dotted with those glowing purple pods that you encountered earlier. Destroy them before using the organic alien bounce pad to reach the high walkway. Then, progress farther up the path and through the far doorway.

Getting through the next room is gonna take some fancy footwork. Leap from the trail onto the first vertical pillar. From the pillar, jump onto the long and wide tentacle. Follow the tentacle until it’s terminus and sprint jump to the next pillar. A couple of more easy jumps and you’ve made it o the far side.

Move through the door and follow the gently sloping path until you reach a soldier’s mangled corpse. Look up and spot another shelled organism used to open locked doors. To force it into a defensive ball, lob a pipe bomb off the distant bounce pad. The goal is to detonate it within the creature’s lair in order to frighten it. Succeed and the creature rolls down and comes to rest at your feet. Push it all the way down the path and through the opened door.

On your way down the path, an Octabrain bursts from the wall to stop your progress cold. Execute it and then continue playing soccer with the round alien being.

You have to push the bug through two more large rooms, all the while facing multiple aliens. Remember your pipe bombs; they come in mighty handy when you need to clear a room!

After successfully unlocking the door, the road gets a bit more difficult. Destroy the purple-glowing sacs and shoot the arm-like protrusions before venturing past them. The next area is quite large and houses many alien pods. Steel yourself for a fight and move ahead. Stomp on the small crabs but shoot the larger Pregnators before they reach you.

Caution: Keep an eye on your six o’clock, as the cavern is circular, making a flanking attack likely.

What the creatures lack in power, they make up for in number so continue moving and don’t waste ammunition on stationary pods. Instead, melee them as you pass by to ensure no more Pregnators spawn.

Exit the room and continue along the path until the mission ends.

Queen Bitch

You’ve finally reached the ground level of the Duke Dome. Unfortunately, the doors ahead are locked. Grab the explosives from the ammo crate in the adjacent room and then return to the workout area. Move to the left of the large hole in the alien wall and you’ll see a distant bounce pad. Target the bounce pad with a Pipe Bomb. If your throw is successful, the bomb will land right outside the doorway. Detonate it and the resulting explosion will clear the path ahead.

Grab the RPG at the base of the stairs and equip it. Move up the stairs, through the double doors and the battle with the Alien Queen will begin.

To remove her protective shell, ricochet a Pipe Bomb off the nearby bounce pad and detonate it once it slips through her armor. She’ll be forced to drop her defenses, at which point you need to fire RPG rounds at her exposed body. Repeat the process until she falls.

You have only a small walkway on which to operate and ammo crates bookend it. Stick to the sides and away from the center else her melee attacks will devastate you. Refill your Pipe Bombs at the ammo crate to your right and your rockets at the ammo crate to your left.

After taking damage, she’ll respond by lobbing troop-carrying pods at you. At first, they’re weak Pregnators but deep into the fight they’ll Octabrains. Ignore her minions at your own risk; as they will quickly spell the end of your campaign.

When her life gauge has been depleted, move to ledge overlooking the arena and perform a quick button press to finish her off.

Achievement/Trophy

Bring down the Alien Queen to unlock the “Not Bad for Human” achievement/trophy.
